Daily Candle Ceremony

The use of candles is highly symbolic in our spirituality. Not only do they provide light in the darkness, but they can also provide frangrance and warmth. Candles can make you feel a sense of home no matter where you are. Here are what different candles represent to us:

Sound a gong (or bell) symbolizing the start of the ceremony.

Light three white tapered candles representing the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These candles should be lit to show our gratitude for His blessings throughout the day.

"For the blessings bestowed upon us this day. (Name three blessings you are grateful for.)"

Light a red tapered candle representing the sacrifice of Christ.

"Through the blood of our Savior, for the atonement of our sins."

Light an orange tapered candle representing the hardships and struggles we must face.

"For the strength to face our demons."

Light a yellow tapered candle representing a desire for peace and serenity.

"For peace and serenity among men.”

A green tapered candle represents nature and our desire for its prosperity.

“For the prosperity of the creation."

Light a blue tapered candle representing our desire to send blessings to others.

"Blessings upon ______________; may their burdens be eased."

Light a purple tapered candle representing the culmination of our prayers.

"Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen"

These candles should be lit every evening at sundown (or as close to sundown as possible) and should burn until bedtime. Perform this ceremony with your family; it may give you insights into what's important to them.

Sound a gong (or bell) representing the end of the ceremony after extinguishing the candles.
